An amazing man.

I got to know Nick as his daughter Amy is married to my brother in law Ben and have had the absolute pleasure of spending some time in his company over the last 8/9 years. The first thing that always struck me about him was his warm welcoming smile, his firm handshake and his amazing ability to find the positive in almost everything. I say almost everything because some of my fondest memories are from when his loving family gave him the gift of an MP3/MP4 player. I got a call from Amy to ask me if i could help him out as he couldn't get it to work. What ensued was a few days of evening calls on the mobile to try and talk him through how to work it, load music on to it and then subsequently play that music. What struck me was that in truth, i think he would have been happier and more comfortable listening to said music on CD, Tape or Vinyl but because his family had given him such a lovely gift, he really wanted to make it work and get the use out of it. It's hard to ever imagine Nick frustrated or bemused by something but this seemed to be his Kryptonite. We spoke at length over a good few days and i am not sure we ever got to make it work but i loved our chats and i hope he did too. What started as a relationship thrown together by circumstance, became a relationship where i looked forward to seeing him at family parties and events as i would know i would get a sensible, informed and interesting conversation with a man far cleverer than most i have managed to meet in my life. My other memories of Nick are from Amy's wedding and Max and Ollies birthday's and the occasional christmas where we shared some time together. He always put so much love in to everything he did for his family and it showed when you saw the boys and Ben and Amy with him. Also with Zack and Rebecca, his love shone through at every occasion. His friendship, however infrequent, meant more to me than i guess he would ever have realised as his intelligence, coupled with his warmth made every meeting memorable. Lastly i recall in my mind the many cards, messages and gifts he gave to myself, Sophie and Grayson and he always put thought and love in to them. His life seemed filled with so much and my thoughts are with his friends and family as i can only imagine the sadness and the huge sense of loss you have in your hearts. I hope you are warmed by the many stories and tales of his life as he truly was a remarkable man that left such an imprint everywhere he went and has left behind a family that gave him great happiness and everlasting pride. Forever in our thoughts, today and every day. Love Paul, Sophie and Grayson XXx
